YOUR WALL OVEN GUIDE: WHAT TO KNOW WHEN CONSIDERING A WALL OVEN

When shopping for a wall oven, there's a lot to consider: features, configurations and heating systems, to name a few. Making your choice can be difficult and requires a good amount of knowledge to determine which type might be best for you.
This guide will help you understand what to consider when adding a wall oven to your kitchen and outline some of your options. It will also highlight some specific offerings from KitchenAid wall ovens.

"Wall ovens and ranges often have similar features like bake, broil roast, convection baking, convection broiling, convection roasting, meat probes, timers and a delayed start function. Some brands offer WiFi connected models, which allow owners to remotely control their wall oven by using an app provided by the manufacturer. Because there are an array of wall oven features, configurations and heating systems available it can be hard to determine which wall oven is an ideal fit for your lifestyle and household. Below are the key points to consider when wall oven shopping."

Thermal Ovens

Thermal ovens, also referred to as conventional ovens, feature the classic thermal baking system comprised of a bake element at the bottom and a broil element at the top of the oven's interior.

Convection Ovens

Convection ovens are designed to use both convection and thermal heat. You can pick which to use based on what you want to bake or broil and how you want to do it. Convection ovens have fans to help ensure that warm air is evenly distributed throughout the oven cavity. The result is less cooking time and more even baking.

There Are Two Types of Convection

Fan Convection systems employ a fan to help evenly disperse heat throughout the oven cavity. This allows for a more uniform temperature than normal thermal cooking.

True Convection systems add an extra heating element to the mix. This additional heating element is situated behind a fan so that warm air is distributed throughout the oven maintaining a uniform temperature.

Please note that the majority of cooking instructions and recipes are provided for thermal (conventional) ovens. Certain ovens automatically make the conversion. Otherwise, owners will have to use available online resources.

Most KitchenAid wall ovens offer True Convection to ensure the inside of the entire oven is heated to, and maintains, the perfect temperature.

Double Wall Ovens

Double wall ovens feature two ovens, a single control panel and are available in either convection or thermal baking systems. The luxury of separate upper and lower ovens allows you to enjoy the flexibility to cook multiple dishes at the same time even if they must cook at different temperatures.

Single Wall Ovens
Single wall ovens are designed with one oven and a single control panel. These are available in either convection or thermal baking systems.

Combined Wall Ovens
Combination wall ovens come in a stacked suite configuration, which includes a microwave and either a convection or thermal oven with a single control panel. In certain models, the microwave can double as an extra convection oven.

SIZES
Shopping for a wall oven that's the right fit? There are a variety of wall oven sizes to best suit your needs.

Often, wall ovens are 27"" or 30” wide. Some feature 24” width for kitchens that are smaller or narrower. Heights may differ due to the configuration and brand; singles are roughly 29” high, doubles 51” high, and combinations 42” high. The depth for most unit is about 23”.

Please consult with the manufacturer’s specifications for exact measurements as there could be some variances.

INSTALLATION & INTEGRATION
Certain wall oven models can be installed flush whereas others protrude roughly 1”, this is known as proud installation. A flush wall oven requires deeper installation than the installation of standard cabinetry. Some brands may need the additional purchase of a flush installation kit. Don't forget to review the installation and dimension guides so you can plan accordingly and negate any potential issues. It's important for you and your tradesperson to follow the instructions provided in the installation guide.

To help save space, certain models can be installed under cooktops. Double check with your manufacturer if this is possible for the brand and model you intend to buy.

To understand electrical requirements, parts required for assembly and installation and cabinetry cutout dimensions, you and/or your tradesperson are advised to review the installation guide and follow it precisely.

Most KitchenAid wall ovens offer the FIT guarantee which means they come with a flexible installation system, allowing them to fit into an existing cabinet cutout. If the wall oven can not fit into the designated space, the manufacturer will reimburse you for cabinet modifications up to a certain dollar amount*.

Manual or Standard Clean
Manual or standard clean ovens require you to physically clean by hand. You might have to use cleaning agents to remove certain stains. Review and follow your appliance and product use and care instructions prior to commencing. This should be your primary source of information.

Self-Clean
Self-clean ovens can assist in the oven cleaning process. Features can include high-heat self-clean, where the door locks and the oven cavity reaches an approximate heat of 800 °F (400°C), ideal for incinerating spills or food. Afterward, you will have to clean out any remaining food particles. This entire process can take between two to six hours.

Steam Clean
Steam Clean is available in some wall oven models. In addition to high-heat self-clean, this feature uses low heat and produces steam by adding water. This can help release residue in the oven cavity in a shorter cycle. Any remaining residue and water must be cleaned manually, possibly with chemical cleaners.
KitchenAid offers both manual and self-clean wall ovens.
