A GUIDE TO WALL OVENS: THE BASICS OF BUYNG A WALL OVEN

When shopping for a wall oven, customers will get their choice of features, configurations and heating systems. Knowing what you want and what's best for your household can be challenging.

This guide will help you understand what to consider when shopping for a wall oven to add to your kitchen, and review some of your options. It will also highlight some specific offerings from Maytag.

Wall ovens typically come with features similar to standard ranges: bake, broil roast, convection baking, convection broiling, convection roasting, meat probes, timers and a delayed start function. Some brand offer WiFi-enabled, models which gives owners the ability to remotely control their appliance and receive cooking alerts via the app provided by the manufacturer. Many wall oven models can be seamlessly integrated into an existing kitchen layout. They have the potential to refresh the look and feel of the space. Since they are installed directly into a wall, it creates a more spacious feel plus you can enjoy more counter space or even add more cabinetry if you'd wish.

THERMAL OVENS

Thermal ovens, or conventional ovens, use classic thermal baking system with a bake element situated at the bottom and a broil element at the top of the oven's interior.

CONVECTION OVENS

Convection ovens utilize both convection and thermal heat. Make your selection based on what you're planning to bake or broil. Convection ovens also have fans to evenly disperse warm air so that it fills the oven cavity. The result is lower cooking times and more even baking.

TWO DIFFERNT TYPES OF CONVECTION

Fan Convection ensures that heat evenly covers the inside of the oven to achieve more consistent temperatures than traditional thermal cooking. Maytag does not offer fan convection.

True Convection adds an extra heating element behind the fan to disperse warm air and to help ensure an uniform temperature is achieved.

Most cooking instructions and recipes are written with thermal (conventional) ovens in mind. Some ovens can perform the conversion whereas others will require you to do it yourself. There are several online resources available.

Maytag wall ovens currently feature True Convection to circulate even temperatures for more consistent roasting and baking

DOUBLE WALL OVENS

A double wall oven (with either a convection or thermal baking system) derives its name because it features two ovens and a single control panel. Having the upper and lower ovens be separate means you can cook multiple dishes at the same time even if they need to cook at different temperatures.

SINGLE WALL OVENS

Single wall ovens have one oven with a single control panel. They are available in either convection or thermal baking systems.

COMBINED WALL OVENS

Combination wall ovens are in a stacked configuration, combining a microwave and a convection or thermal oven with a single control panel. As a bonus, the microwave can also act as an extra convection oven.

TAILLES

There are a range of sizes If you want a wall oven to fit into your current kitchen layout.

Wall ovens are available in two wide dimensions: 27” and 30”. You could opt for 24” width from certain lines if your kitchen has smaller dimensions. Height typically depends on the configuration and brand. Singles are approximately 29” high, doubles 51”high, and combinations can be 42” high. Across the board, unit depth is approximately 23”.

Make sure you understand the specifications and the exact measurements offered by the manufacturer. Some may vary.

INSTALLATION & INTEGRATION

You can install a wall oven flush or in a way where it will protrude approximately 1”. This is called proud installation. A flush wall oven commonly needs more depth than what is offered by the average cabinets. If you want to go this route, you will need a flush installation kit. Consult the installation and dimension guides before starting and be sure to follow the instructions.

If saving kitchen space is important to you, consider an option where the model is installed under cooktops. Make sure to confirm with the manufacturer that this option is offered.

It's always a good idea to hire a tradesperson who work according to the installation guide and has a full understanding of all electrical requirements, the parts needed for assembly and installation and cabinetry cutout dimensions.

Most Maytag wall ovens offer the FIT guarantee which means they come with a flexible installation system, allowing them to fit into an existing cabinet cutout. If the wall oven can not fit into the designated space, the manufacturer will reimburse you for cabinet modifications up to a certain dollar amount*.

*Time limited offer. Offer subject to change or cancellation without prior notice. Please see the manufacturer''s website for more details.

MANUAL OR STANDARD CLEAN

Manual or standard ovens require owners to clean them by hand often with a cleaning agent to remove stains. Adhere closely to your appliance and product use and care instructions before you begin cleaning.

SELF-CLEAN

Ovens that are self-cleaning are programmed to help with the oven cleaning process. These can include the high-heat self-clean feature that locks the door and then proceeds to heat the oven cavity to approximately 800 °F (400°C). This intense temperature can incinerate most spills or food. Once complete, you will have to wipe away any remaining food particles. The self-clean feature can take as llittle as two hours or as long as six hours from beginning to end.

STEAM CLEAN

Steam Clean is available in certain wall ovens in addition to high-heat self-clean. Steam is deployed in shorter cycles to help loosen and release residue inside the oven. Remaining residue and water must be cleaned by hand possibly with a chemical cleaner. Maytag wall ovens offers both manual and self-clean option.
